Located in the Cordillera de Vilcanota -southeast of the city of Cusco- Vinicunca at 5,200 meters above sea level, in the district of Pitumarca offers a wonderful spectacle, from the very road that leads to it. 

About 100 kilometers southeast of Cusco, Peru, there is a rainbow made mountain. The multicolored tonalities are due to the different minerals that cover the area in layers. These natural substances began to form 65 million years ago when water and rain covered the slopes and peaks. With the passing of time, the extreme climate melted the snow that formed there, revealing to the world what is today one of Cusco's most important tourist attractions.

The soil of the mountain of 7 colors according to SGP (Geological Society of Peru) mineralogically presents:

Pink or fuchsia: mixture of red clay, fangolites (mud) and sand.

Whitish: sandstone (quartz sand) and limestone.

Purple or lavender: marl (mixture of clay and calcium carbonate) and silicates.

Red: argillites and clays.

Green: clays rich in ferro magnesian (mixture of iron and magnesium) and copper oxide.

Yellowish brown, mustard or golden: limonites, calcareous sandstones rich in sulfide minerals (combined with sulfur).

The U.S. media Business Insider included Vinicunca as part of a list of the 100 must-see places to visit in the world.

ITINERARY 

• Early in the morning the tourist transport will pick you up from your hotel.
• The trip is 80 kilometers to the town of Cusipata, in the south of Cusco. The trip takes approximately 2 hours.
• In Cusipata we stop for breakfast and continue with the trip.
• From Cusipata we continue by tourist transport to the Phulawasipata checkpoint (1 hour trip approximately).
• There begins the arduous hike of 6 kilometers through incredible Andean landscapes. The goal is the Vinicunca, the 7 colors mountain.
• The return to Cusco follows the same route as the outward journey. First there is an arduous hike from Vinicunca to the checkpoint at Phuluwasipata.
• Then you travel by minivan to Cusipata where you have lunch.
• Then you continue the trip by minivan to the city of Cusco where the tour ends.

If you cancel at least 72 hours before the tour starts, you will receive 100% of the amount paid. After this time, or in case of no-show, no refunds will be given.

You can book up to 48 hours before the tour starts. Places are limited and we recommend booking in advance.
