The Humantay Lagoon is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Peru. It is one of the most beautiful natural landscapes of Cusco. It is located near the snow-capped Salkantay in the Andes Mountains of Cusco, Peru. The lake is located at 4,200 meters above sea level.

Humantay a Living Wonder.

A natural wonder Located in the Vilcabamba mountain range, precisely at the foot of the snow-capped Humantay, this impressive scenery stands out for the turquoise color of its waters and its unique scenic beauty. It rises at 5,473 meters above sea level and is considered the second highest lake of its kind in the entire Cusco region. The temperature of its waters can vary between 10 and 0°C (50 and 32°F). This is due to the fact that the lagoon is supplied by the waters coming from the snow-capped mountains. The road is as beautiful as the destination, as it passes through a beautiful landscape typical of the Andes between hills, high mountains, llamas, alpacas and vicuñas.

The mysticism and particular energy is due to the fact that according to legend, the Apus Ausangate and Salkantay went south and north, respectively, in order to end the drought that plagued their domains.

In the midst of his labors, Salkantay met the goddess Veronica, with whom he fell madly in love. The feeling was reciprocated. However, after fulfilling his mission, he had to return home. Otherwise, Cusco could be terribly affected by water shortages.

When he returned, both he and his brother took the form of snow-capped mountains in order to supply the town with water forever. Although Salkantay had succeeded in carrying out his plan, the separation had been a hard blow for him. To such an extent that, as the story goes, he cried day and night until his tears formed what we know today as the Humantay lake.

Itinerary

·         We pick you up at about 4 am in the morning at the door of your hotel located in the historic center of Cusco.

·         Then we travel by minivan for 2 hours to the town of Mollepata. There you will enjoy a buffet breakfast.

·         Then we start again a short trip (1 hour more) to Soraypampa camp located at 3,900 meters above sea level.

·         In Soraypampa we get ready for the arduous hike to the Humantay lagoon. This route is accompanied by our tour guide and takes 1 hour 30 minutes on average (2 hours maximum).

·         Optionally, tourists can hire horses from local muleteers. After this hike you will arrive at the Humantay Lagoon.

·         In the lagoon the guide will give us an explanation of the place and we will have photos to get the best pictures.

·         Finally it is time to return by the same way we came up. The way back does not require so much physical effort because it is downhill. Horses are optional.

·         In Soraypampa our tourist transport will be waiting for us. We will return in the tourist minivan towards the city of Cusco.

·         Before, in the town of Mollepata, we will make a stop to enjoy a delicious buffet lunch.

·         Finally we will return to Cusco. The tour ends at about 7 pm in a central square to most hotels and tourist restaurants.

- It is also possible to rent a horse (70-80 soles) so you don't have to walk up and enjoy the ride. But it is only possible for the outward journey, it will be necessary to walk back.

If you cancel at least 72 hours before the tour starts, you will receive 100% of the amount paid. After this time, or in case of no-show, no refunds will be given.
