Enigmatic monument of classic Inca architecture that rises to 4, 300 meters above sea level. In the abysses of the canyon of the Apurimac River south of the city of Cusco.

It is an archaeological complex of pre-Hispanic constructions, with the technology of Mauk'allaqta and Inca architecture. Located in the district of Pomacanchi, province of Acomayo, department of Cusco, Peru. Waqrapukara, etymologically comes from two words, waqra means horn and the word pukara fortress or barracks. In short, this word waqrapukara means horn-shaped fortress. It was a residence of the nobility of this place; with astronomical observatories and at the same time it was a religious center protected with watchtowers and subway paths. 

The curves in the carved stone terraces seem to hold the Waqra, which resembles a double-peaked crown. In the middle of it, there is a natural cave with Inca intervention and a small window overlooking the abyss, which also allows a magnificent view of the night sky, populated with constellations, planets and stars of enormous value in the Inca cosmovision.

ITINERARY 

• The tour begins with the pick up from the hotel at 5:00 am and then head south to Chuquicahuana where we will take the road to Acomayo during this journey we will appreciate the Pomacanchi lagoon where we will have a short stop.
• Continuing with the tour we will arrive to Sangarara where we will have breakfast, and then continue to the community of La Rinconada where we will begin the hike to Waqrapukara.
• During this hike we will be able to appreciate a great amount of flora and fauna typical of the area until we reach our destination Waqrapukara, where we will have a guided tour visiting the following places: Intipunku ("Sun Gate"), main square, towers, andenería, enclosure of Wiracocha and cave paintings depicting llamas.
• After the visit to Waqrapukara we will start with the return to Sangarara where we will have lunch and the transportation for our return to Cusco.
